I’m Sexy and I Know it!

11 Oct

Good evening my lovely #BBCers! After the fail I had last week I decided to do some thinking about what new activities I could incorporate into my routine to switch things up a bit. If you have read my previous posts then you remember I don’t like exercise one bit, and that’s why I have to disguise it as fun! So that got me thinking what sort of fun exercise can I do at home? Well ladies what came to my mind was the most fun exercise I can think of…Sexercise!
Now don’t panic I’m not going to give you any play by plays of mine and Johns private time haha! When this idea came to me I thought to myself duh! How many times in my life have a read Cosmo articles about how to contort my body to burn extra calories in the bedroom and here I am doing laundry lunges!
So I did some research and found some of the positions that burn the most calories:
1) The Cowgirl- You can modify this classic position and come up on your feet, almost like a squat. That’s all butt, legs, and hips. Also if you get up onto your feet and lean on your hands, that’s working out your upper body!

2) Standing- If you and your man are facing each other then you are using core and upper-leg strength. If your legs are wrapped around your partner then you will need good arm strength to hold on and that’s an arm workout.

3) The Bridge- With the bridge the woman is facing upward, using all four limbs to hold her body weight off the bed. *WARNING* this pose is not for the weak! This one’s going to make you work! We are talking biceps, triceps, abs, butt, quad, and calves. You may need to stabilize yourself by stacking some pillows under your back. Even with modifying this position with the pillows you will still definitely be working out your butt, and inner thighs. In this position you can burn up to 68 calories per minute!

As I was thinking about this topic, I was also reminded of the Carmen Electra striptease workout videos! Does anyone else remember these? Well I found one on YouTube and got my ass on the floor at 11:30pm for a stripper workout. While I’m doing spread eagle stretches on my floor I just had to laugh at the un-sexiness of it so I filmed a couple of min. of me doing this ridiculous routine LOL! Enjoy

Hahahahahaha! Sexy right? I think any career as a stripper is out of the question for me…

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!

As we approach the end of week 4 in #BOUDIORBODYCHALLENGE I am so inspired by all the amazing participants we have! It is just another reminder to me why I love my job. I am going to speak candidly to all my fellow #BBC warriors because I know I will not ever be met with judgment from this wonderful group of ladies (and a few men!)

Let me start by sharing with you that when the idea for the Body Boudoir Challenge was first talked about with my lovely co-workers and friends my initial reaction in my head was WTF! I don’t want to so this, not right now! I have been more overwhelmed with the tasks in my life than ever before. Don’t get me wrong I am grateful to be busy at a job I love, and I feel blessed to have a loving husband and 2 beautiful boys that I want to care for, but none the less I have been spread thin and I knew things where only going to get more stressful in the coming months with the holidays, wedding season, and school starting.
I will say I am glad I shut down the thoughts in my head and pushed forward with all my lovely Haute Shot ladies because it has actually forced me to take the time to be conscious of taking care of myself as well as the people around me, and I think it is even helping me manage my stress better!

This last week has been a total FAIL for me though… this is a common pattern with me and I don’t think I have ever stuck to any health or fitness changes I’ve tried to implement into my life past the 5week mark. I started this week out with a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese where I happily took part in some pizza Mt. Dew and birthday cake. Things snowballed from there. It has been one of the busier weeks I’ve had since the challenge has started, also John and I have a wedding to attend this weekend and I have been putting off addressing the issue that we had nothing to wear for weeks.

I can feel the results of my bad behavior and I have been so drained of motivation. My version of veggies this week was carrot cake at 12am and cardio while shopping for wedding attire H&M at the Forum Shops haha!

I have a nasty pattern of being really hard on myself when I get off track, it usually results in even more loss of motivation and it will be weeks before I get back on the wagon.

I am happy to report that because of all of YOU I am not keeping that trend. I’m not beating myself up. This is reality. I’m sure I’m not the only person to have ever had a FAIL week. Maybe even some of you have had a backslide or 2 and reading this will help take some of the pressure off.
I am going to enjoy the rest of my week and sip champagne and eat wedding cake this weekend and then I am going to wake up Monday morning feeling refreshed and get back to it! I know I can because I have all of you to inspire me every day:)

A Girls Just Gotta Have Some Fun!!

27 Sep

Hi everyone Happy Thursday! September has come and is almost gone, I swear the months seem to go by faster and faster. With summer being gone I am feeling more motivated to get out of the house for my workouts and enjoy this beautiful weather! I love walking with the family on fall days, or rather me walking pulling my 2 kids in their wagon but that’s ok because it means a better work out for me!

With the nicer weather and PSL’s I talked about in last week’s blog, the new season also brings about a very busy schedule for me. Not only is it wedding season which means I will be working hard for my money, but the start of school, and the routine of pick up, drop, off, do your homework, bath, brush, bed, and oh shoot is there clean school clothes? I’m sure all of other working mamas out there can relate to this!

With the adjustment of our even faster pace schedule I have found myself shoving in a 20min. workout here at there in my living room, thanks to Jennifer Kakita at for giving me some great tips on fitting in exercises on the go like doing walking lunges on your way to the washing machine( which I totally do!) I have been able to keep up but I’m definitely not having very much fun with my workouts.

So along with the family time walks I’m going to be incorporating into my routine, I also want to try some new things that seem fun to me. I saw online that there is an exercise class that you stand on these surf boards that are on some sort of movable platform. Basically you can get the workout of surfing but in a class indoors in the desert, sounds like so much fun right?!

Cool Right?

Cool Right?

Also Wealthy at is offering $5 adult beginner ballet classes to all BBC members on Wednesday evenings from 7:15pm-8:15pm and I am desperate to get to one! I’m not at all a dancer, the last time I did ballet I was 6 but I have memories of having so much fun doing dance and it just seems like it would so fun to do. Not to mention I get to pick out cute outfits with cut up sweat shirts and leg warmers!
Umm Yes!!!

Umm Yes!!!

If you can tell by now I only like to exercise when it’s being disguised as fun haha! Formal exercise is a chore for me, I’m just as excited about finding time in my schedule for it as I am to do laundry… so check in with me I want to get these 2 activities on my schedule in the near future, and I will blog about them both. My schedule is jam-packed with weddings in October so it may be into Nov. when I actually get the opportunity to go, but the sooner the better so I can share with you all and frankly I don’t know if I have another month of laundry lunges in me haha!

Oh and I’m currently working on tricking John to go to the surf board class with me! So shhhh don’t tell him. I figure it’s a baby step to getting him to do some jazzercise and I think it will do him some good is workout routine is so boring it’s making me tired just thinking about it!

Sugar and Spice, and Fit in your Pants!

20 Sep

With the official first day of fall right around the corner, I am reminded of all the wonderful traditions the holidays bring. I love this time of year! Whether it’s busting out the decorations, scary movie marathons, seating arrangements for thanksgiving, or the perfect present I am so excited to give I can hardly wait for Christmas morning! It all brings such joy to me and makes me feel the excitement and magic I used to feel as a kid.

Now let’s get to the traditions that can be a little worrisome for everyone around this time of year…The food! Since the holidays are also about family it seemed fitting that I work with my sister this week, she is the owner of and you can check out her blog here . In this post my sister talks about the yummy coffee drinks that come out at this time of year. Her and I both (must be in our blood!) nearly jump with joy when we see the pumpkin spice latte has returned to Starbucks, and just like her I have already ordered my first latte of the year straight up! My advice to you is, if you love these drinks as much as we do, and get the joy of how the taste or smell can make you feel the crisp fall days coming then let yourself indulge once guilt free! But after that use some of the suggestions my sister gives in her post to cut back on the calories but still get the feeling of fall from time to time

Check in with me next week I will continue to have some recipes from my sister at for healthy options for holiday classics. Lord knows I can’t come up with any on my own and I refuse to miss out completely on my holiday treats! Am I the only one that’s this passionate about my food traditions? Haha! Good luck to all my fellow BBCers out there! And I hope you are all having great success on your 2nd week of the challenge!!!

Don't judge me!

Don’t judge me!

“No Pain, No Gain”

12 Sep

Welcome to the first official week of the Boudoir Body Challenge!!! Today is mine and Johns youngest son Coles 3rd Birthday! We were just saying to each other that we can’t believe it’s already been 3 years but at the same time feel like Cole has been a part of our lives for longer and it’s hard to imagine a time that we only had one child…its weird how that happens.
Anyway this post will be about my husband, Johns fitness journey. When I spoke with my husband in preparation for this post this is how the conversation went. Me- “Hunny what do you want to say about your fitness journey?” John- “huh?” Me- ” you know your fitness journey, for the blog. Didn’t you read mine?” John-“oh yeah I read it. Ummm… I want to work out” Me-” can you be serious please. What is your history with being fit and health conscious? has it been a struggle? has it been something that came naturally for you? what are your goals?” John- “well my goal is to be like the Rock and Marky Mark in Pain and Gain!” Me-annoyed look.. John-” Ok give me a little while to think about it and I will let you know what I want to say.”
Then I saw my husband go to our office grab a sheet of printer paper and a pen and disappear into our bedroom for 20min and resurfaced with this.

He is crazy...

He is crazy…

Hahahhaha! ok So obviously this is not a factual history of my husband! But this will give you all a little insight into my husbands mind and his sense of humor!

This is Johns true fitness story. My name is John Bates I am 32 years old and currently weigh 200.Im a tattooer, I have been tattooing for about 12 years. I currently work at I have always been naturally athletic. When I was younger I played baseball, basketball, wrestled, boxed and played football. My father received a scholarship to play college football when he was younger, and when I was in high school I found to have inherited is abilities in that area and was added to the varsity football team my freshman year. I started being scouted by colleges by my sophomore year. I didn’t end up following through with that though, and decided instead to quit football and focused on my passion for art.

John is going to kill me for post this picture!

John is going to kill me for post this picture!

I continued to be very active and stayed in shape pretty easily. About the time a settled down with my wife, Rachel I really started to dedicate my time to advancing in my career and that meant a lot of hours sitting. I’ve also had 2 children in the last 5 years and opted to spend my spare time that I wasn’t working with them. I do make it a priority to be active with my children when we are spending time together. I take them on hikes in red rock, bike rides, running around killing pretend zombies, and coached my sons soccer team for 2 seasons. I have managed to not put on too much extra weight over the years by having a lifestyle that’s fairly active and as my wife tells me “good genetics.” My goal for this challenge is to weigh 190 and to depend on my muscle memory to get my physic back to where I’ve always been most comfortable.

I will be implementing an exercise routine of strength training and core exercise 5 days a week. I’m taking creatine, and glutamine. I will also be making sure I’m eating more lean meats, and cutting back on my caffeine and sugar intake.

Stay posted to continue to follow mine and Johns journey through the challenge. I will be posting recipes, what we are doing exercise wise, our struggles, and I’m currently trying to convince my husband to let me film him doing a jazzercise routine!! (that one is just for pure enjoyment! haha!) If you want to join the Body Boudoir challenge it’s not too late you can join here we have discounts for members, fun events planned through out the 12 weeks and prizes!!

Good luck to all my fellow BBCers and look out for my post next Thursday I’m thinking about some recipes…

“Will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

bodybHi I’m Rachel Bates

I just turned 28 years old on Sun. Sept. 1st I am 5″3 and currently 130lbs
I am a wife and mother to 2 boys. and I run my own business with, I’m also the hairstylist for,

Let me give you a little history on myself. I was always an active child playing sports, I loved soccer and dance as a kid. I never was concerned or really aware if what my body looked like, until high school…
In my high school years I started to be ridiculed about my body. I was called saddle bags, fat, large etc. I was even given a slim fast for my birthday one year. So naturally I started to become really focused on my body and its size. I was constantly “dieting” which is ridiculous and when I look back at photos of me in high school I think it is utterly INSANE!!

Senior Picture

Senior Picture

shortly after I graduated I met my husband, John and I was at my smallest size ever weighing in at 118lbs.

As most people do in new relationships I gained the little bit of happiness lbs. I mean how could I be expected to maintain that size when I was consumed with lying in bed and eating ice cream with my main squeeze next to me? I was in pure bliss and for the first time in a long time content in my size weighing in at 135lbs.

After a few years of living together John and I decided to pull our asses outta bed and start getting serious. in 2007 I enrolled into cosmetology school at nights and worked during the day and with a schedule like that my diet consisted of fast food 3x a day and I got up to 145lbs and I was not happy about it.
Then in 2008 we were blessed with a little surprise named Gunnar and then Cole 2 years later. After Cole was born I didn’t immediately start to stress about the weight loss. I had spent the last 7-8 years or so letting other people dictate how my body “should be” even on my wedding day I was criticized by a disgruntled family member that it was a shame I couldn’t lose more weight!!!! I was DONE I was going to breast feed and enjoy my babies. When my youngest son was about 9mo old  I started to address the extra weight. I had set the goal weight of 135lb because that was the last time I could remember being comfortable and happy.  I stepped on the scale and weighed in at 155lbs. Not bad for being pretty close to 200lbs at the time I delivered him! So I got geared up and implemented the only weight loss plan I had ever done. Don’t eat, drink excessive amounts of caffeine, chain-smoking, and become OBSESSED with my scale and weigh in EVERY morning. I wish I was kidding but I’m not. That got me to about 145lbs then nada. I stayed there for about 6mo. Then I started to adjust my diet, I removed all red meat from our lives and did my best to eat smaller portions more often. Voila! Down to 140lbs!  I continued the process of jumping in and out of eating right and exercising to starving and chain-smoking and made it to 135lbs after about 2 1/2 years( some of the last lbs I attribute to pure stress) and I looked in the mirror and this is what I had.

I did not like what I saw. I feel deflated and I think I look unhealthy. I am not by any means “fit” and although I do pat myself on the back for loosing weight, I want to feel good, be healthy and have more energy. I want to treat my body better and stop being so mad at it because I love myself, and my body. It has given me 2 healthy beautiful children!

So My goal for the next 12 weeks is to not have a weight loss goal. For the first time in my life I am not going to be a slave to my scale. My goal is to work out at least once a week. To improve the nutrition of myself and my family, and to enjoy the holiday traditions that I love with out guilt. I will be baking, cooking and indulging. But I will do this in moderation and I will be trying new and altered recipes to make classic dishes healthier. I will be working with a nutritionist Jennifer Kakita at for guidance on my diet and exercise.

Check in with me next week for Johns Fitness story and BBC plan!

Hi my name is Rachel Bates, and I am a wife, a mother of 2 beautiful boys and a hairstylist/makeup artist, co-owner of and also part of the beauty team for Let me tell you a little about myself, my family, and my co-workers, as well as little about what you can expect to see from my blog.

My husbands name is John Bates, we have been together for 10 years and married for 5 of those 10 years. My husband is a tattoo artist at We share 2 amazing sons Gunnar, who is 5, and Cole, who is just about to turn  3.

My co-workers and dear friends are Kat and Stacie. Kat Ludens and I met about 6 or 7 years ago, we were introduced by a mutual friend in the beauty industry and after a few years of knowing each other and working together we decided to open a salon together Hera Beauty Shop! We have been up and running for a little over 2 years, it has been a labor of love at times, as all businesses can be, but it truly does have the most peaceful vibe there and that makes it all worth it.

Stacie Frazier is the owner of Haute Shots Boudoir Photography. Kat and myself met Stacie when Hera Beauty was referred to her for hair and makeup services about 5 years ago. Then after that we just sort of all hit it off became friends and became her official beauty team!

Between Myself, Kat, Stacie, John, all our friends and co-workers, we have a beautifully dysfunctional little family jam packed with creativity and love for one another. Now we may not always be the most organized (that’s where Kat comes in!) or we may idea vomit all over each other from time to time but in the end we always come out the other side with a beautiful creation, and we genuinely love what we do, and when we get the opportunity to collaborate with one another.

So stay tuned We have lots of exciting things coming up!
